Microsoft has been involved with OpenAI since 2019 when they initially invested $1 Billion into the young AI firm.
Microsoft has been a key contributor to OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model, the technology behind ChatGPT. They’ve been working closely with the organization to advance the state-of-the-art in AI and make it more accessible to developers and businesses.
Microsoft has also integrated GPT-3 into its Azure Cloud Computing Services platform, making the model available to developers and businesses through a simple API.
Microsoft Confirm Third Round of OpenAI Investment
Despite rumours circulating about a $10 Billion investment, Microsoft finally released confirmation of the third round of funding. Although a definitive figure has not yet been announced, other than the fact it’s a ‘Multi-Billion-Dollar’ deal.
“Today, we are announcing the third phase of our long-term partnership with OpenAI through a multiyear, multibillion dollar investment to accelerate AI breakthroughs to ensure these benefits are broadly shared with the world.” The blog post read.
“The past three years of our partnership have been great,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “Microsoft shares our values and we are excited to continue our independent research and work toward creating advanced AI that benefits everyone.”
